Frequently Asked Questions
What is GPS Speedometer?
GPS Speedometer turns your phone into a precise speedometer using its built-in GPS. It works for cars, motorcycles, bicycles, scooters, boats, trains and skateboards, and can log each trip with distance, speed and the route you took.
Do I need any extra hardware?
No. Everything runs off your phone's own GPS receiver, so there is nothing to plug in and no connection to your vehicle to set up.
How accurate is the speed reading?
Speed comes straight from your device's GPS, which is generally very close to your vehicle's own speedometer. Accuracy depends on signal quality, so readings can drift in tunnels, underground car parks, or between tall buildings until the signal recovers.
Where do the speed limits come from?
The app looks up the posted limit for the road you are on from real road data. Coverage and correctness vary by region and the data can be out of date, so the limit is shown for reference only — always follow the actual road signs.
Does it work without an internet connection?
The speedometer, gauges, HUD and trip recording all work offline, because GPS does not need a data connection. Automatic speed-limit detection does need internet, since it looks the limit up as you drive.
Does it keep recording when I switch apps?
Recording continues while the app is in the background, so you can use navigation or music at the same time. Closing the app fully stops the recording.
What is free and what needs Premium?
The app is free to download and the live speed readout is free to use with the Digital Clean gauge. Premium unlocks the other gauge themes, HUD mode, trip recording and history, the speed-limit alerts, the drag timer and the Picture-in-Picture widget.
Can I cancel my subscription anytime?
Yes. Cancel from your device's subscription settings at any time, and you keep Premium access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet — GPS Speedometer is currently available on the App Store for iPhone. Email us if you would like to hear when an Android version arrives.
